      ABOUT US

      THE PROJECT

Launched in 2019, Forestami originated from a research initiative led by architect Stefano Boeri at the Politecnico di Milano, supported by Fondazione Falck and FS Sistemi Urbani. The study explored the potential and benefits of urban forestry within the Milan metropolitan area.

The project evolved into a collaborative effort promoted by the Municipality of Milan, Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy Region, Parco Nord Milano, Parco Agricolo Sud Milano, ERSAF, Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione di Comunità Milano, Fondazione Comunitaria Nord Milano, Fondazione Comunitaria Ticino Olona, and Milan’s universities: Politecnico, Statale, and Bicocca. The shared goal is to integrate 3 million trees into urban and peri-urban landscapes by 2030, enhancing natural capital, mitigating air pollution, and improving quality of life while addressing climate change.

In late 2019, the Forestami Fund was established within Fondazione di Comunità Milano to collect contributions from companies and citizens supporting the project. From 2019 to 2025, Forestami’s strategies and activities have been guided by its Scientific Committee, chaired by Stefano Boeri, fostering a unified vision for greening the metropolitan area.

As of April 2025, Forestami has transitioned into Fondazione Forestami, a recognized Third Sector Entity (ETS) dedicated to implementing and expanding the project. This foundation will continue current activities and develop new initiatives both within the Milan metropolitan area and nationally, aiming to enhance environmental quality and community well-being.
