Objective
The new urban filter woodlands around the cemetery and the enhancement of the tree cover in the Via dei Partigiani garden improve environmental comfort and redefine the relationship with the urbanized system.
Canegrate
Four areas were involved in the intervention, which saw the participation of students from three classes at the Aldo Moro lower secondary school in Canegrate.
The agricultural area on Via XXV Aprile, covering 3,591 m², with a wooded area where 718 plants were planted;
The agricultural area north of the cemetery, with a total surface of 15,254 m², now hosting 3,051 specimens;
The uncultivated zone south of the cemetery, which, in continuity with adjacent projects, saw the creation of a wooded area over 2,543 m², with 509 low shrubs to allow flight for the birds present and reared in the area;
The area southwest of the cemetery, previously uncultivated, with 1,203 trees and shrubs over 6,016 m².
The new woodlands planted consist of native forest plants, arranged in parallel curvilinear rows to facilitate maintenance operations while ensuring a more natural appearance of the forest formations. Among the tree and shrub species planted are oaks, hornbeams, cherries, ashes, wild pears, maples, privets, poplars, field maples, crabapples, wild pears, hazels, spindle trees, dogwoods, alder buckthorns, plums, viburnums, and hollies.
