The urban forest of Pozzo d’Adda: nature and community growing together
A new urban forest has taken root in Pozzo d’Adda, bringing together environmental regeneration and civic participation. The project, promoted by Fondazione Forestami in partnership with the Municipality of Pozzo d’Adda and made possible thanks to the support of Fondazione Alia Falck, represents a concrete example of participatory urban forestry in the Metropolitan City of Milan.
The initiative was launched with a dual objective: to create new green areas and to foster a conscious community capable of taking care of its own territory. The project unfolds over three years, supporting step by step the growth of the forest and the relationships that will keep it alive over time.
A new area of over 20,500 square meters
The new forest involves the creation of a wooded area of over 20,500 square meters, with the planting of 1,691 trees and shrubs, carried out by Cooperativa La Goccia. A space designed to offer the community a place dedicated to well-being and social interaction. It is not just about planting trees, but about building a true green infrastructure capable of improving quality of life and promoting biodiversity.
It is in this very spirit that, on November 29, 2025, the collective planting event took place: a morning of participation and shared commitment, during which residents gave concrete shape to the new forest.

The community: a journey of active participation
The community engagement process, led by Cooperativa Pares, aims to raise public awareness and foster the development of a community actively committed to caring for the new green areas. An urban forest, in fact, can grow better over time when supported by a community that recognizes it as a shared common good.
The value of this project is measured not only by the number of trees planted, but by its ability to support the growth of the forest and the relationships that will keep it alive over time.
A three-year project: the phases of the journey
The project unfolds over three phases, designed to strengthen over time the bond between nature and the community.
- First year: 2025
The first year was dedicated to educational meetings and to the collective planting event open to residents and schools, which took place on November 29, 2025, marking the concrete beginning of the urban forest. - Second year: 2026
The second year focuses on dialogue and participatory activities to strengthen a mindful and responsible community engaged in caring for the urban forest. In February 2026, an initial discussion with the community took place. In spring, some of the activities that emerged during this meeting will be tested, while in autumn the Manifesto of the Pozzo d’Adda Forest Community will be drafted, a shared document defining values and commitments for the future care of the area. - Third year: 2027
The third year will focus on continuing the activities launched and on monitoring both the forested area and the community that has grown around it. The goal is to ensure continuity, stewardship, and long-term care, so that the urban forest of Pozzo d’Adda becomes a stable reference point for the local area.
